HTC has recently introduced its very first dual core processor smartphone at a London event: the HTC Sensation! The Sensation has a 4.3” SLCD with a resolution higher than what HTC has used in its smartphones so far. At 960×540 pixels, it’s safe to say that we’ve got something special to look forward to.
The HTC Sensation was said to be released in Europe, but the sensation is also featured on the US HTC website. The Qualcomm MSM8260 processor is a new CPU with two cores, both of which have been clocked at a really nice 1.2GHz. This processor is a so called SOC (system on a chip) and it incorporates an Adreno 220 GPU. This GPU is said to improve graphics significantly.
The screen of the HTC Sensation is being protected by Gorilla Glass, a new material that simply doesn’t break unless you put a sledge hammer to it. However, most people just abuse their smartphones with their fingers. And mere mortal flesh is no threat To Gorilla Glass.
The screen of the HTC Sensation does not only change resolution, it changes aspect ratio. The former resolution used by HTC in its high end smartphones, was 800×480. This pixel resolution works out to an aspect ratio of 5:3. But the new 960×540 pixels works out to a resolution of 16:9. This ratio will be familiar to movie buffs, because it is the traditional widescreen ration.
There is a good reason why HTC decided to go with this resolution as opposed to the one they’ve used so far. HTC is planning on a new video service called HTC Watch. HTC Watch can be used to rent movies and series that can be watched on the HTC Sensation. HTC recently bought company Saffron Media, which specializes in video media. HTC Watch is apparently the result of this take over.
The HTC Sensation has a HDMI output and DLNA in order to be able to play videos on television sets. The HDMI output has been combined with the micro usb port to form one connection. This connection is called Mobile High Definition Link (MHL) and is expected to become the universal connection for multimedia on smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy S2 also utilizes MHL.
Another improvement to HTC’s latest brainchild, is Sense 3.0. This new software version is said to improve the lock screen, with which it is possible to switch to a media rich application faster and easier. The camera on the Sensation is a respectable 8 megapixel. Because of the 8 megapixel video camera in combination with the dual core SOC, it is now possible to shoot videos in 1080p at 30 frames per second.
The HTC Sensation will run Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread. Up until its introduction, this model was known as the HTC Pyramid. The Sensation weighs less than its predecessor, the HTC Desire HD. The Desire weighs 164 grams, while the Sensation weighs only 148 grams. It has a size of 126x65x11.3 millimeters. The Sensation will be released in June.
